This is the first workshop of Bioinformatics workshop series to be held by the Shahid Beheshti University in the Technology & Research Park of Zirab. In order to using all students and researchers in nationwide, we are going to hold these workshop series in the other research centers and industrial centers. Therefore, the centers that wish to hold the workshop are welcome.
The main aim of bioinformatics workshop series is introducing some tools and algorithms in bioinformatics. The participants in these workshop series will be able to join to a research bioinformatics group for developing new tools and algorithms. They also can use existing bioinformatics tools as end user.
The topics of phylogenetic tree workshop are:
• Sequence Alignment
• What is a phylogeny, and why should we learn about them?
• The difficulties in understanding phylogenies
• What different models exist?
• What is the difference between Neighbour Joining, UPGMA, Maximum parsimony and Maximum Likelihood?
• Bootstrapping?
• What programs to use
This workshop contains 5 theoretical and 3 practical sessions.
